Quick Review: Uproar

Uproar is the new free-to-play third-person shooter created by Lockwood available through the PlayStation store. I heard about this game a few days ago and finally got around to playing it. I hadn’t been on PlayStation Home in over a year and didn’t expect much from the game, but for some reason I could not put down the controller.

The game is multiplayer only and focuses on squad based 4v4 matches which seem to take place in warehouses. The levels do change in fact offering different layouts, which is fun for awhile but also gets boring because there is no variation in scenery or strategy.

The weapons in the game are fairly balanced, and I recommend unlocking one of the silenced weapons with your first unlock. One missed area of opportunity is with equipment. There are no grenades, claymores or any sort of other equipment to use in order to kill someone. You are equipped with a melee weapon as well as a side arm and primary to start and those are your weapons of war.

Overall the game is fun to play and worth checking out if you aren’t sure what to think bout it. Give it a few rounds and make your own choice. You have to go in remembering you can’t expect too much from a free-to-play game.

Uproar Free-To-Play on PlayStation Home

PlayStation Home just keeps getting better. Hot on the heels of Hellfire’s impressive business management simulation Home Tycoon, developer Lockwood has released Uproar – a fully-featured free-to-play third-person shooter with a gang theme.

Upon loading the game for the first time, you’ll need to choose between two opposing factions known as the Outlaws and the Swyfts. Each gang will come with its own unique set of clothing – wearable in game, or elsewhere in PlayStation Home – and a custom lobby designed to accommodate you and your crew.

The third-person shooter will regularly invade recognisable PlayStation Home spaces, such as the Action District, bringing a new flavour to the classic areas by allowing you to clamber over rooftops and put bullets in the bodies of your friends.

Unsurprisingly, the game will feature full customisation options too. You’ll be able to preview, purchase, rent, compare and even gift various items – all of which can be unlocked naturally if you play the game for long enough. Everyone that boots up the game will receive a free Starter Pack, featuring a handful of weapons and power-ups.

You can check out the game in action via the trailer below. The shooter’s out now in PlayStation Home.

Obviously the graphics of this game aren’t up to par with what you’d expect from a PlayStation 3 game, but you can’t expect much from a free-to-play PlayStation Home game. First impressions I think the game has potential. If you were one of the lucky gamers to be around in the early Socom years, the game style and play looks similar to that. I will definitely be playing this game the next few days and bring back my analysis.
