New Regency to take on Splinter Cell Movie

New Regency has confirmed that it has signed on to produce the planned movie adaptation of Splinter Cell.

The project will star Tom Hardy as stealthy hero Sam Fisher, with screenplay provided by Eric Singer of The International Fame.

According to a Variety report, New Regency said that it will work closely with Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet on the film.

“With actor Tom Hardy attached and screenwriter Eric Warren Singer to write the script, Ubisoft Motion Pictures will lead the development with the support of New Regency to bring the franchise to the big screen in a dynamic way,” said Baronnet.

“For Ubisoft Motion Pictures, creative control is key and New Regency shares our commitment to respecting the creative freedom of our team. Their ability to produce both blockbusters and intriguing indie hits is an ideal fit for the ‘Splinter Cell’ franchise.”

In addition to its work on Splinter Cell, New Regency is also in line to produce the big screen adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, which features Michael Fassbender.

Assassin’s Creed Script in the Works…

Ubisoft is working with New Regency for the forthcoming Assassin’s Creed film and development of a screenplay is beginning immediately. Ubisoft Motion Pictures, which is the film and television division of Ubisoft, will develop the Assassin’s Creed film–based on the successful game franchise. It will develop the film in close collaboration with New Regency.

According to a press announcement today, the creative pieces are coming together and the project is being fast tracked. Ubisoft will maintain control of key elements of the movie’s creative direction.

“Ubisoft chose to partner with New Regency because they are a talent- and filmmaker-driven company, with the same independent and creative mindset that we have at Ubisoft Motion Pictures,” said Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive officer, Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Bringing aboard New Regency’s renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that Assassin’s Creed will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise.”

The announcement comes after Ubisoft Motion Pictures attached distinguished actor Michael Fassbender to the film.

“We wanted to do everything we could to secure the rights to Assassin’s Creed, which Ubisoft has maintained with such care and quality over the years,” said Brad Weston, president and chief executive officer, New Regency. “Having just finished working with Michael on Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave (with Plan B) made the partnership even more irresistible.”
