Black Ops II: Everything You Need to Know

Black Ops II launches Monday November 13th at midnight and millions of gamers will be filling up the servers shortly after. With that said, the following is a brief yet detailed outline of things you should know before Monday.

Campaign – A time-spanning, generation-spanning narrative, Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 introduces players to an insidious villain named Raul Menendez who hijacks the US military infrastructure to further his own agenda. Harness the power of near-future technology and advanced robotics to pull the world back from the brink of annihilation.

Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 catapults players to the year 2025 to confront an insidious criminal mastermind namedRaul Menendez who has stolen the keys to the U.S. military infrastructure and turned our greatest strengths against us. Engage in classified operations that harness the power of future-tech weapons and advanced robotics to pull the world’s superpowers back from the brink of annihilation.

Multiplayer – Rooted in near-future fiction, Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 multiplayer will introduce players to some of the most cutting-edge weaponry and equipment that 2025 will have to offer.

Black Ops 2 multiplayer introduces a re-imagined Create-a-Class, introducing players to a new “pick-10” allocation system that allows for a combination of any 10 items, making almost anything possible. The new Score Streak system rewards players that play to the objective and help their team win. League Play, CODcasting and Live Streaming combine to make Call of Duty fun to watch, by providing players with the tools to commentate games and broadcast those games to the world.

Zombies – Collect the right pieces as you make your way through TRANZIT and you might have a chance to put them to good use. Shotguns are classic, and rifles are powerful, but neither can compare with the cover offered by the ZOMBIE SHIELD!

We’ll ignore the rigor mortis to shell out a few well-deserved high-fives to those Zombie Bus followers who put the pieces together themselves already. The buildable Zombie Shield is just one of many surprises we have in store as you make your way through the BIGGEST Zombies experience yet!

Black Ops II: Zombies Mode Detailed and Official Trailer

In answer to questions posed by G4, Zombies Creative Lead Jimmy Zielinski further detailed the features coming to Call of Duty Black Ops II’s zombie slaying co-op mode. When asked about map size in comparison to earlier zombie maps, Zielinski touched on what the three different game modes will offer.

”The story mode, Tranzit is a huge map with a number of different areas to explore, all of which are connected by a bus route. The bus route is also part of the world and can be explored, either on foot, or by bus, which travels to each of the areas of the map. You’ll meet a few new characters, some new zombies and fight them off using weapons ranging from new near-future weapons, some faithful stand-bys and a few wunderweapons. Ultimately, strategy is the name of the game here.

When playing Survival, the team has taken the individual areas and tailored them for classic survival play. The individual Survival areas are adaptations of the locations in Tranzit, but they’ve been designed to accommodate survival-style play.

Finally, there’s Grief, or what we like to call “4Z4.” There are two human teams that go head-to-head; however, they can’t kill one another – they can only fight to repel the oncoming zombie horde. The name of this game is “last man standing” – whoever is left, that team wins. So to achieve this, we provide some griefing mechanics that enable teams to “encourage “zombies to cast their attention on the other team. If used properly, the other team won’t be able to overcome the zombie attack and the remaining team will be left victorious.

Between Tranzit, Survival and Grief, there is an absolute ton of gameplay here – Zombies is really its own stand-alone game.”

Zombies is shaping up well, featuring more extensive modes than those found in the previous games.

Call of Duty Black Ops II comes out November 13th for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC and November 18th for Wii U in North America with other Territories on November 30th. If your Pre Order now you can receive the Nuke town 2025 bonus map and access to the XP Launch Weekend.

Black Ops II’s 2025 Nuketown map

Activision has released the first image of the Nuketown 2025 map for Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Nuketown 2025 will be given for free to all players who pre-order the game or anyone who purchases the Hardened or Care Package special editions.

In addition to the multiplayer map, Activision has also announced that anyone who’s pre-ordered the title will get access to a double XP weekend between November 16 and 18 to celebrate the game’s launch.

Nuketown 2025 is an updated version of the Nuketown map, which first appeared in the original Black Ops. As one of the smallest maps in the game, the original Nuketown is based on a typical U.S. suburb used to demonstrate the effects of a nuclear weapon on a residential area, replete with mannequins.

The updated Nuketown 2025 will still encourage the close quarters combat that made the original so popular, but has been re-imagined in a depiction of the “Model Home of the Future”. This isn’t the only appearance that the Nuketown map will make in the game though; anyone who buys the Hardened, Care Package or Digital Deluxe editions of the game will receive the Nuketown Zombies bonus map for use in Black Ops II’s Zombie mode.
